What is Green Streets?

It's a £2m initiative from British Gas that aims to help Britain’s communities become greener by encouraging innovative local projects that aim to:

• save energy

• generate energy

• actively engage the local community.

Over the coming year, British Gas will be working in partnership with 14 communities aross the UK, providing funding and expertise to get these ideas off the ground.

And to make things more exciting, there's a £100,000 prize at the end of it for the community that does the most towards saving energy, generating energy, and getting the whole community to take part.

What does it mean for Llangattock?

In a nutshell, Llangattock will receive over £130,000 worth of funding from British Gas to help deliver a range of projects that will benefit the whole community, including specific schemes for:

• the school and community hall

• the allotments

• a community-owned micro-hydro scheme

In addition, over 40 households will receive a comprehensive energy assessment, plus expertise and financial help to make their homes more energy efficient.

The project gets under way on 18 January and there'll be lots of interesting things happening over the course of the year.
